Robert Cartwright is a veteran of the San Diego music scene, with a professional playing and singing career that began well before he graduated from San Diego State University with a B.A. degree in music. He is a longtime member of the American Federation of Musicians, specializing in both electric and acoustic guitar, and vocals.
Robert, as a successful nightclub bandleader, appeared with his bands at most of the major hotels in San Diego, including Hilton Hotels, Sheraton Hotels, Atlantis-Seaworld, Ramada Inns, Royal Inns, Atlas Hotels and Black Angus Restaurants. After 14 years of steady work in nightclubs, he began specializing in stage shows, conventions and corporate or private parties. He was the guitarist for numerous stage productions with organizations such as The San Diego Civic Light Opera (Starlight) Orchestra (eight years), The San Diego Symphony Pops Orchestra, The Old Globe Theatre and others.
As a recording studio guitarist and vocalist, Robert has been heard on numerous albums and commercials for clients such as Yamaha, Kodak, Buick, Travelodge, Home Federal Savings, Karl's Shoes, DHL Airlines, Holiday Inns of Hawaii, Nissan, American Savings, Montgomery Ward, Best Western Hotels, U-Totem and Frazier Farms.
Robert now specializes in solo work ranging from Jazz and Standards (with or without vocals), through the best of Popular Music classics to Beach Music for that tropical-themed event so popular with San Diego conventioneers. His presentation includes fully-sequenced musical accompaniment with keyboards, bass, drums and more, providing the sound and energy of a small combo, but with the ability to provide the appropriate volume for even the most intimate of settings.
